The Italian Room

The Italian Room has unusual furniture from Italy, circa 1900-1920, and all the artwork features Italian scenes. The paintings are by Geneva Patterson.

inlaid Italian dresser

The marble-topped inlaid dresser and its matching pair of nightstands are "Liberty" style. In keeping with their era, the bed has a unique spread of Art Deco style Dutch fabric from Liberty of London. The deep rose color of the walls and the soft silver carpeting were chosen to complement this fabric.

The artwork includes prints from the early 1900s as well as original watercolor and oil paintings. The wardrobe is a converted bookcase from a priest's quarters.

Italian room on entry One window is screened by tall boxwood, one looks onto the screened porch, and the corner windows look onto the old fountain garden of rugosa and tea roses, lilies and herbs. In summer, deep rose-colored crepe myrtle blooms are framed here.

This room has a king platform bed with a firm and comfortable foam mattress, and king-sized foam pillows. The private bath is just next door, with a bathtub and handheld shower hose. Two comfortable reading chairs complete the furnishings. As an extra amenity, this room has a trouser press.

The Bathroom for the Italian Room

Italian room's private bath The dated dark brown tile rather suits the antique furnishings of the Italian room. To cheer it up, we added deep sky blue on the walls and ceilings. We softened the square room with a curvy lamp fixture, large oval mirror, and rustic white frames for the artwork. Yes, even the bathrooms have art.

We believe this bathroom is wheelchair accessible. The Italian Room and its bathroom are our most accessible accommodations, with wide doors. There is a sturdy grip bar on the tub, and a lightweight but sturdy bath seat is at hand.

This room has only a tub because we insist on featuring the window, but there is a rinsing hose on the tub spout. The angled end of the tub makes a good backrest for a nice long soak. We will set the bath up with candles and flowers and send you off, with a soothing beverage, to soak in a bubble, mineral or herbal bath.
