Scent Gardens
From the Confederate jasmine and Lady Banks rose by the front door to the lilacs and peonies at the edges of the fields, Heaven Scent abounds in wonderfully perfumed flowers.
So many scented plants were here before our B & B. Magnolia trees, a linden, Rosa rugosa, banks of honeysuckle, jasmine, iris, Eleagnus, a couple of hardy old lilacs, patches of fennel and wild herbs, and fruit trees all scent the air.
In the fields, we added four dozen lilacs, as many highly scented roses, and nearly as many peonies. South of the barn, two rows of mock orange (Philadelphus).
In the front yard, we put in lavender, summersweet (Clethna), osmanthus and viburnum. In the gardens in front and back of the house, we've been planting tuberoses, Oriental lilies, narcissus, bearded iris, Confederate jasmine, gardenias, and of course more herbs. You will have fresh flowers in your room and a fresh rose or bouquet on the breakfast table. The butterflies will let you explore the gardens with them any time.
